Mushers meeting:
Sign-up/drawing will be at 7:00 PM at the Sheep Creek Lodge, Willow on Thursday, January 28th.
Note that a $50 deposit is required by January 20th. This will give us time to prepare the sled parking lanes, truck parking positions etc., prior to the start of the event.
Entry forms are available from the Download section of this site.
Entry Fees:
The entry fee is $200 for the 200 mile race and $300 for the 300 mile race. Payment is expected by January 20th. If you intend to pay with cash at the mushers meeting, a $50 deposit is still required by January 20th. Checks should be made payable to Don Bowers Memorial Race. Note that, courtesy of a local musher, out-of-state checks are no longer accepted.
Late Entry Fee: A late entry fee of $25 will be charged after January 20th. Checks will not be accepted at the mushers meeting (cash only).
Purse:
The race purse will not be less than 50% of the race fees (but note purse eligibility).
Race Start:
12 Noon Willow Community Center, Friday, January 29th (directions).
- Do not forget rabies certificates (if not verified at the Mushers Meeting);
- Do not forget your vets sign-off for the race (vet checks are the responsibility of individual mushers this year. For your convenience you may download a vet-check form for your vet to sign);
- Please add owner name or telephone number (or similar) to dog collars. We don’t wish to loose any dogs;
- Minor rule change: it is not necessary to attach bibs to your sled. You are required to attach/wear a bib at the start, however.
- Parking spaces at the start will be marked with your bib number; equipment checks will be conducted at your parked position;
- Teams will leave at two minute intervals; you may pull forward to the start when indicated by the timekeeper. Depending on the number of teams a short interval may be required between the two events. Typically, the 300 mile teams leave first, but this will be confirmed at the mushers meeting.
Straw
Your handler is responsible for leaving your straw/drop bags at May’s cabin and, for 300 racers, Eaglequest Lodge. Note that you provide the straw. You may also arrange to drop off straw and drop bags prior to the race start, but please call ahead.
- May’s Cabin (directions, telephone numbers)
- Eaglequest (directions, telephone numbers)
Courtesy
Please make sure your handlers bag straw at the layover checkpoints. If you do not have a handler, a $10 bill to the checker will benefit local youth who will pick up for you.
Banquet:
A post race banquet will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd, 7pm, at the Sheep Creek Lodge, Willow.
