Directions to May’s cabin (checkpoint/food drop)

At Trapper Creek main intersection (mile 114+ Parks Hwy) when traveling north turn right onto Susitna River Rd.

Abt 1.5 miles to Bradley and turn right again. Another 1.5 to Little Rd. and right once more. About 1/4 mile down Little there’s a turn about with 2 driveways leading off it. Look left and see a red roof cabin and barn and a tall radio antenna. That’s the place. It’s the left driveway. Everything from the turnabout in is one lane. Watch for out bound traffic least somebody will need to back up.

Drive in and drop off feed and straw (somebody will show the driver where) and take the truck right back out.

Trucks, etc. can be parked anywhere along the south side of Little Rd if so desired being careful not to obstruct normal traffic.

If handlers, spouses, etc. wish to hang out to see teams they can walk back in (not far).

Checkpoint protocol is as follows—

  • Cold dog water available in the mud room
  • Mushers bag their used straw and leave it at their parking place.
  • Bag trash separately and leave it there also. Both types of bags will be available in the shop.
  • Driveway closes at 10PM.
  • Parking on Little Rd. facing East (outbound).
  • Mushers food will be served in the living room this year. (boots stay in the mudroom). Space is very limited. Sandra asks that the living room not be a social center. Mud room for that.
  • Sleeping space upstairs over the shop for mushers.
  • Shop will be warm for a handlers hangout (micro-wave, coffee pot, hotplate, and potable water). Mushers sleeping upstairs will probably appreciate a noise consideration.
  • Drying lines will be rigged in the shop for personel clothing, harness and booties. No dog gear or buckets in the house please.
  • Lapses of house manners will be dealt with by Beth Wheeler and likely result in a summary execution.
