In no special order, simply as they have been asked in earlier years/this year.
Q Where is straw provided?
You (your handler) will deliver straw (and drop bags) to May’s Cabin (directions). If running the 300, your handler should also deliver straw/drop bags to Eaglequest Lodge (directions)
Q Which checkpoints have water?
May’s Cabin and Eaglequest both have water. Oil Well does not, neither does the Community Center. (200 finish)
Q Which checkpoints have food available?
The Community Center usually has warm food for 200 finishers. May’s Cabin may provide warm stew or similar, or provisions that can be microwaved. Eaglequest has dining facilities, pizza, hamburgers or similar for sale.
Q Where can dogs be dropped?
May’s Cabin and Eaglequest. You or your handler must pick them up there (promptly, please).
Q Can I race without a handler?
Well, yes, if you can persuade some other team’s handler to pick up your straw, move dog truck etc. And you can pay a fee and have local kids pick up straw if no other options are available (see Sign up).
Q How is the Quest informed that we qualified in this race?
We forward the required documentation to the Quest.
Q Can I qualify for the 200 if I entered the 300 but scratched/failed to finish?
At the discretion of the Race Marshal, you might qualify for a 200 finish if you head straight in to Willow (don’t scratch at Eaglequest), and are viewed as competitive within the running of the shorter race. You must tell the checker that that is what you are doing, and the Race Marshall as soon as possible. You will not be eligible for any part of the purse, however.
Q The rules imply a “limited entry.” What is the limit?
The actual limit varies depending on the trail that is possible. If May’s Cabin is a checkpoint, the limit is around 25 teams depending on conditions. If you are sure you wish to run, sign-up and pay entry fee’s early. That way we will be sure to hear from you if you decide not to race.
